Chapter Future Garden Feedback Group 2

Uncomfortable

As part of the Chapter Future Garden transdisciplinary team, artist Koen Vanmechelen selected Uncomfortable as the artwork to integrate the ideations of group 2 with the feedback and reflections of the transdisciplinary team.

Uncomfortable

For this group, I chose Uncomfortable as a reflection of their exploration. This artwork symbolizes a return to childhood - a place of safety, like an incubator, where risks are minimal. In their project, the group created a game that allowed them to experiment within a controlled environment, a space where they could explore without stepping too far outside of their comfort zones.

Uncomfortable embodies the idea of seeking security, of staying within the ‘incubator,’ where it feels safe to play and test new ideas without excessive risk. This resonates with the group’s journey, as they were still searching, still finding their way, and not quite ready to leave the protective boundaries they had set for themselves.

This artwork encourages a reflection on how we can create new rules for our own games, how we push the boundaries of comfort, and how, even in security, there is room to grow and question. It serves as a reminder that true exploration often requires us to move beyond the incubator, to embrace a bit of discomfort in order to discover new perspectives.
